In the heart of Melbourne, Australia, a remarkable story of compassion, creativity, and purpose was unfolding.
This is the story of Tara Treasures, a brand inspired by the goddess Tara, who symbolises compassion and peace. The name itself reflects the business’s deep commitment to women empowerment.
Jag's journey began in a small village nestled in the mountains of Nepal. Growing up in a close-knit community, he was surrounded by the rich cultural heritage and the warmth of his people. Life in the village was simple but full of traditions and a strong sense of togetherness.
When Jag was young, he left his village to Singapore, but his heart always remained connected to his roots. The devastating Nepal earthquake of 2015 was a turning point for Jag. Witnessing the destruction and the struggles faced by his community, he felt a deep responsibility to give back and support the people who had shaped his early life.
Jag and Jooli returned to Nepal with a vision to create sustainable employment opportunities for the local artisans. They wanted to harness their incredible skills and craftsmanship to produce beautiful, ethically-made products.
Jooli, a creative mind with a keen eye for design, was deeply moved by the Nepalese community. Together, they decided to create a brand that would not only produce enchanting toys but also uplift the lives of the artisans behind them. This shared purpose led to the birth of Tara Treasures, a brand that embodies compassion, peace, and women empowerment.
Tara Treasures' founders returned to Nepal with a vision to create sustainable employment opportunities for the local artisans. They wanted to harness their incredible skills and craftsmanship to produce beautiful, ethically-made products.
At the core of Tara Treasures is a commitment to women empowerment. The business model is designed to provide fair wages and dignified livelihoods to the women artisans who create their products.
These women, often mothers, work from home or in small community workshops, allowing them to balance their work with family responsibilities. By providing sustainable employment, Tara Treasures is helping to give these women the means to support their families and communities.
The artisans use traditional felting techniques passed down through generations to create the beautiful designs that make Tara Treasures’ products so unique.
This not only preserves their cultural heritage but also instills a sense of pride and accomplishment in their work. Each piece is a labour of love, crafted with care and attention to detail.
While the heart of Tara Treasures lies in Nepal, its soul is firmly rooted in Melbourne. The city’s vibrant creative culture and innovative spirit are reflected in the designs of Tara Treasures’ products. Jooli’s expertise in product development ensures that each piece is not only beautiful but also safe and durable, meeting the highest standards of quality.
The journey from concept to creation is a collaborative effort. Jooli and her team design the products in Melbourne, drawing inspiration from the city’s artistic community. These designs are then brought to life by the skilled hands of the Nepalese artisans, who infuse each piece with their own unique touch. The result is a range of toys that are both enchanting and meaningful, blending the best of both worlds.
Tara Treasures is deeply committed to sustainability and ethical production practices. The felt used in their products is made from 100% natural wool, sourced from New Zealand. The wool is dyed using eco-friendly, non-toxic dyes, ensuring that the products are safe for children and the environment. The felting process itself is low-impact and sustainable, using minimal water and energy.
The business also focuses on reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices throughout their supply chain.
By choosing to work with natural materials and traditional techniques, Tara Treasures is helping to promote a more sustainable and responsible approach to production.
Tara Treasures is more than just a business; it’s a community. It’s a place where mothers can find beautiful, safe, and ethically-made toys that they can feel good about giving to their children.
It’s a platform that empowers Nepalese women, providing them with fair wages and a dignified livelihood. And it’s a brand that stands for sustainability and the joy of handmade craftsmanship.
The journey of Tara Treasures has been filled with challenges, but the smiles of people playing with their toys and the knowledge that they are making a positive impact keep Jag and Jooli going.
The brand has grown from a small idea into a thriving business, with a loyal customer base who share their values and vision
As Tara Treasures continues to grow, Jag and Jooli remain committed to their core values. They are constantly exploring new ways to expand their product range while staying true to their mission of women empowerment and sustainability.
Tara Treasures is now a Fair Trade Certified brand! Becoming Fair Trade Certified is not just a badge of honour; it is a significant step toward creating a more equitable and sustainable world.
By collaborating with various initiatives and charities, they aim to contribute to broader social and environmental causes, making a lasting difference in the world.
